Bellevue

Under the heading “Designing future societies for our lives”, the topic of “Society 5.0”, Japan’s national strategy for the development of a society, is to be addressed. This concept, which is also being discussed as part of Expo 2025 in Osaka, aims to solve global challenges and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN Sustainable Development Goals).

A multimedia board game as a communication tool that interactively sensitizes students from the 10th grade onwards to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. By changing roles and engaging in discussions, they experience complex social challenges from different perspectives. The focus is on strategic thinking and collaborative problem-solving. All decisions change the game world, motivating and rewarding them.

Players discuss realistic problems. Four predefined solution approaches – economic, ecological, social and scientific – show different perspectives with which to argue. A projected city serves as a digital game board and symbolizes our society. RFID technology combines physical and digital elements, creating a flexible, adaptive game.

My tasks were game design, programming the game mechanics in Unreal Engine and developing the Arduino-based card reader.
