Dreamscape: Procedural World Generation

The procedural generation of content can act as an extremely powerful lever to save time and resources.

With the introduction of the “Procedural Content Generation Framework” (PCG), the Unreal Engine has had powerful but experimental tools for procedural generation since version 5.2.

Epic’s demo, the “Electric Dreams Environment Project”, used PCG as a tool for environment artists. The framework created a generic environment, highlights were placed by hand and integrated seamlessly into the environment thanks to PCG.

With the Dreamscape World Project, I wanted to take the next step and create a world completely procedurally.

Some important functions are currently still missing, but a look at the roadmap makes me more than confident that a lot more will be possible in the coming releases. I’ll stay tuned.

You can find an overview video about the project on my youtube channel.
